Suspected attackers of Ekiti monarch’s hotel freed
An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Thursday freed two persons who were accused of destroying a hotel belonging to the Olukere of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin, in the Gbemisola area of the town.
The two suspects – Ayodele Osanyinbola and Babatunde Ayodele – had been arrested and detained by the police in connection with the attack on the hotel on December 25, 2017, three days after it was inaugurated.
The suspects had been remanded pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The magistrate, Mrs. Doyin Akosile, on Thursday ordered their release, saying the advice from the DPP stated that they had nocase to answer.
Some thugs had attacked the hotel because the monarch said Ikere had yet to have a candidate for the 2018 governorship election.
The state Deputy Governor, Kolapo Olusola, a native of the town, had been anointed as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The monarch’s loyalists allegedly launched a reprisal on those suspected to be the perpetrators, leading to the death of one Kolade Adefemi.
The Olukere and five others were arrested and detained for the death.
They were charged with conspiracy, attempted murder of one Ayodele Osanyinbola and murder of Adefemi.
