I love footwears so much.I go all out to look for the ones that are fine and still affordable ,I may not be able to afford designer shoes for now but any good looking footwear catches my eye. He is so passionate about this business which he runs out of Ado-Ekiti that he already has it branded as Iru Obe. Iru-Obe is an indigenous business which centres on the production of that distinct locust beans produced in Ekiti State. Bankole Iru-Obe,as I will like to call him, is a graduate of microbiology. He resigned from his well paying job with a top pharmaceutical company in Lagos to relocate to Ekiti State so as to start Iru production.  He was called crazy, family and friends were against this supposedly not so smart move but he stuck to his gun and still pursued his passion. Federal Polytechnic Ad0-Ekiti gets new rector

The Federal Government on Tuesday appointed Dr Dayo Oladebeye as the sixth substantive  Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti (FPA). The appointment of Oladebeye was disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti. According to the ‎statement, Dr Oladebeye was appointed ‎on March 1, in a letter signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu. Adamu, while handing over the appointment letter to Oladebeye, and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Chief Austin Edeze, advised the new rector to rule with the fear of God.  Newsmen report that Olade‎beye was the acting rector before the new appointment, following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past rector, Dr. Taiwo Akande. Lassa fever kills 3 in Ekiti

Three persons have been confirmed dead in a fresh case of Lassa fever in Ekiti. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Rotimi Ojo, made the disclosure in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday. He said that five out of the eight new suspected cases in the state tested negative while one was uncertain, with the last pending as at press time. Ojo added that the patient that tested positive and two others had passed away. The commissioner insisted that there was still no cause for alarm in the state as government was taking proactive steps in its surveillance activities. He gave an assurance that the State Disease Control team had been activated while the process of sensitising the people with jingles and other communication media were ongoing.  Ojo said that similar actions taken during the 2016 outbreak were successful, adding that the epidemic was controlled and the identified patient, who was properly managed, survived. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South West Zone D, has called on Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose to meet to the demands of the striking workers of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, to enable them return to work. In a statement, in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, the students threatened a complete shut down of the state capital, should there be no action towards the reopening of the institution within 72 hours, adding that it would “cause the students in Ekiti State to embark on mass action.” NANS Zone D Co-ordinator, Lukman Adekitan and Treasurer, Ayodeji Amoran, said that the current disruption in the academic calendar of the institution “will automatically become impossible for them to participate in the NYSC mobilisation process.” The students also demanded reduction in school fees in the state-owned tertiary institutions namely EKSU, College of Education, Ikere Ekiti and College of Health Technology, Ijero-Ekiti and called for outright stoppage of “ac...

Scores injured as Oye-Ekiti Varsity students clash with okadamen over fares

There was tension at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, yesterday, as about 20 people were injured when students of the university and commercial motorcyclists, okadamen, engaged in a free-for-all over transportation fare. Sources in the community told newsmen that trouble started when a student and a commercial motorcyclist had an altercation. A source said: “The commercial biker slapped the student, leading to a fight between them, which other students latched unto.  “It was escalated by the anger the students had bottled up for a while over what they see as exploitation by commercial motorcyclists and sundry business operators in the community.” The clash was said to have been exacerbated when the commercial motorcyclists were said to have mobilised against the students, who were also not ready to be cowed. Ikole LGC seizes expired Vitamin C, other drugs

No fewer than 18 Cups of expired Bioracee Vitamin C and other drugs have been impounded by the Ikole Local Government Council of Ekiti State. Mr Tunde Famuyisan, the Head of Environment and Sanitation Department of the council, told newsmen on Wednesday in Ikole-Ekiti that the drugs were seized from patent medicine store. Famuyisan, who conducted newsmen round the seized items at the council’s secretariat, listed other impounded drugs as 14 packs and two pieces of Coflin by Dr Meyer, five packs and six pieces of Losargen 50, 11 packs and one piece of Diabeta. According to him, seven packs and seven pieces of Nuiprofen and one Vitamin C syrup, 25 satchets of Colcol, one Cofmix, One Sevicid, three Bentcol and five satchets of Contafam were also confiscated from the store. Fury in Ekiti school over juju scare

The Federal Science and Technical College, Usi-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State is known for its peace, tranquillity and excellent academic performance. Of late, however, the once-peaceable school has been in the news in the wrong reason. The members of staff and students are up in arms against their Principal, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Kolawole who they alleged is using  juju  against them. The mysterious death of one of the members of staff of the school, Pastor Steve Adeegbe in an auto crash fuelled the insurrection. Suspected armed herdsmen murder Ekiti farmer

Armed persons on Sunday killed a farmer in Ekiti State with residents saying they believe the victim was killed by armed herdsmen. The victim, Olayemi Tunde, was murdered on Sunday in Ipao Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, when the victim was returning home from his farm. Mr. Olayemi, a commercial motorbike rider, had a farm at the Ipao farm settlement, where he had gone to harvest cassava. The attack is coming two days after the state governor, Ayo Fayose, vowed to resist the attacks by armed herdsmen within the state. Violence between herdsmen and farming communities has caused scores of deaths across Nigeria in 2018. A skirmish in January between some herdsmen and Tiv farmers in Ekiti resulted in the death of two persons, a situation which was brought under control with the timely intervention of the governor. NSCDC Officer Develops Security Alert App In Ekiti

A mobile application to alert the officers and men of the Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the case of emergency has been developed by an officer attached to the Ekiti State Command, Mr. Adeoluwa Oyebode. The mobile app named “EkitiAlert”, according to Oyebode has been submitted to the NSCDC Commandant in the state for the use of the corps in its operations. Oyebode while speaking on the innovation said “EkitiAlert is an emergency security phone app developed to bring crime rate in Ekiti State to the lowest ebb, sequel to the modern definition of security as a function of response time to crimes.” The app, he further explained, “is a call directory of NSCDC Ekiti State Command formations across the state on a dial.” The app was presented to the state Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Donatus Izuka Ikemefuna, for onward transformation to the national headquarters of the security agency. Suspected attackers of Ekiti monarch’s hotel freed

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Thursday freed two persons who were accused of destroying a hotel belonging to the Olukere of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin, in the Gbemisola area of the town. The two suspects – Ayodele Osanyinbola and Babatunde Ayodele – had been arrested and detained by the police in connection with the attack on the hotel on December 25, 2017,  three days after it was inaugurated. The suspects had been remanded pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. The magistrate, Mrs. Doyin Akosile, on Thursday ordered their release, saying the advice from the DPP stated that they had nocase to answer. Some thugs had attacked the hotel because the monarch said Ikere had yet to have a candidate for the 2018 governorship election. Tourism: Reps task FG to revisit abandoned Ekiti airport, 7 years ago

The House of Representatives during Thursday plenary session, urged Federal Government to revisit the establishment of Ekiti airport which was approved by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. The resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Segun Adekola, who harped on the need to attract foreign investors to the enormous tourism potentials in the state. According to him, former President during the State Visit to Ekiti state in 2017 gave technical approval for the establishment of airports in Bayelsa, Delta, Gombe and Ekiti States. He observed that the establishment of the airport remains an integral part of economic infrastructure which contributes significantly to the economic growth, potential and development of any state or nation. Ekiti miners to benefit from Fed Govt, BoI N5b loan

Ijero-Ekiti,Nigeria Mining activities in Ekiti State have received a boost as small scale miners in Ijero-Ekiti axis will benefit from a N5 billion intervention fund from the Federal Government. The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and the Bank of Industry (BoI) are making available N2.5 billion each for the intervention fund to assist the miners. The miners will access the cash through cooperative societies to empower them and stop illegal mining in the state.
