FRSC commends Ekiti State Traffic Law

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commended the Ekiti State House of Assembly for passing the State Traffic Management Law. It noted that the law had impacted positively on traffic control and management. Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti States, Dr A. A. Nwaka gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Ekiti State House of Assembly in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday. Nwaka, who was accompanied to the assembly by the Ekiti State Sector Commander, Mr Ismaila Kugu, described the visit as purpose driven. He expressed gratitude to Governor, Ayodele Fayose, for his drive toward achieving an overall development in Ekiti State. The FRSC official noted that the networks of roads in state were now better than what it used to be in the past. Court remands 3 men over alleged defilement of 14-year-old girl

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate court, on Tuesday, remanded three persons for allegedly gang-raping a 14-year-old girl in Ekiti. The suspects, Samuel Farotimi, 27, Sunday Ajimoko, 40, and Sunday Ilugbo, 30, were arraigned for allegedly taking turns to rape the girl. According to the charge sheet, the accused, whose addresses were not given are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and rape. At Tuesday’s hearing, the police prosecutor, Oriyomi Akinwale, a sergeant, told the court that the suspects committed the offence at about 9.00 p.m. on January 29 at Odo Ado area of Ado-Ekiti. He said the suspects conspired among themselves to rape the victim, who was coming back from an errand. The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 33 and 31 (2) of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State Cap C7. Ekiti to upgrade staff development centre to institute

The Ekiti State government is set to upgrade the in-house Staff Development Centre to a full-fledged institute for public servants. The Head of Service (HOS), Dr. Olugbenga Faseluka, broke the news yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, during the second convocation ceremony of the centre. The HOS said Governor Ayodele Fayose had approved the advancement of officers in the secretarial cadre from their previous cadre bar to a more advanced level. The gesture, according to Faseluka, is a display of the commitment of the current administration to making public service more proficient while prioritising the welfare of workers. Faseluka said the development centre, which caters for the training of the secretary cadre only, would be upgraded to become a vibrant citadel of learning that can handle the training of all cadres in public service. 5,000 Youths Benefit From Fayemi’s Free JAMB, CBT Training In Ekiti

No fewer than 5,000 youths in Ekiti State have benefitted from the free JAMB forms and computer base trainings (CBT) instituted by Kayode Fayemi, the minister of mines and steel development. The scheme is being piloted by the JKF Leadership Centre in Ado-Ekiti. Addressing the beneficiaries on Saturday, Fayemi expressed joy that the youths turned out in large numbers for the programme. Fayemi, who is the immediate past governor of the the state, however, expressed regret that his successor, Ayo Fayose, could not sustain one of his (Fayemi) legacies, regretting that during his time as the state governor, free JAMB forms and registration was the responsibility of the state. Electricity Consumers Raise Alarm Over BEDC Bills

 Electricity consumers in Ekiti State have raised the alarm over what they termed “outrageous and killing’ bills being slammed on them by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). Acting under the auspices of the Ekiti State Landlords Electricity Consumers’ Association, the body threatened to seek redress in court. They ordered the company to make available to them pre-paid meters to end the regime of extortion and arbitrary bills being imposed on the residents of the state. The consumers in a statement signed by its Chairman, Deacon Ibukun Ogundipe and Pastor Seye C.O. and others made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Friday directed all the landlords in the state to be paying N3, 000 monthly charges until the prepaid meters that will ensure accurate reading of electricity consumed by the people are provided by the company. Ekiti businesswoman lands in court for slapping policewoman

A 30- year-old businesswoman, Ebun Babalola, was on Friday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly slapping a policewoman while on duty. The accused is being tried for assault. According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Akinwale Oriyomi, the accused committed the offence on Feb. 2 at 7.00 a.m. at Okesa Street in Ado Ekiti. He alleged that the accused assaulted and slapped Sgt. Isekhaigbe Blessing while performing her lawful duties. The offence contravened Section 356(1), (5) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012. The woman, however, denied the charge and her lawyer, Mr Timilehin Omotosho, urged the court to grant her bail on liberal terms, assuring she will not jump bail. In her ruling, Magistrate Dolapo Akosile granted the businesswoman bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until March 3 for further hearing.
