Iyin-Ekiti

Image
Early hours of Friday, 21st September 2019, I got tonnes of messages from people either informing  me or trying to confirm the upward transition of His Royal Majesty (Rtd) Justice John Ademola Ajakaiye, the Oyinyosaiye II of Iyin-Ekiti. This news came as a rude shock to me. The last time I visited the palace to see Baba, I walked with him from his office to the car park and I was almost jogging after him, he had been hale and hearty and so full of life. His demise at this time was unexpected but I take solace in the good works he left behind. Most of the questions I had about Ekiti were answered by Baba and anytime I visited he was always receptive and I went home with loads of information. Iyin had been lucky and of all the worst hit by this unquantifiable loss. He had used the wealth of his influence in so many ways to make Iyin-Ekiti more visible in Ekiti State and in Nigeria. I am glad that the Justice Ademola Ajakaiye building at the Ekiti State Judiciary Complex wa...

I met Oluya

I met an impressive young photographer, by coincidence, at a friend’s place and we had a chat. I was not surprised when I was told that he is a photographer because as I sat waiting for my hostess who had gone out to buy some things I was taking pictures with my phone and this Uncle was using side eye to look at me. Gbenga Manuel-Ikumapayi  is an embodiment of creativity. He is a creative artist. He is an actor, a script writer, a director, content creator and he has a big passion for cinematography. He got interested in pictures both still and moving as a baby when he could fix his gaze on an object for so long. With time he got interested in tales by moonlight. More than the story he was more fascinated by the lightening, acts, and camera movements of the soap. This unknowingly to him will set his work apart as a photographer. RealEkitikete had an amazing time  with Oluya of Oluyatography Read below Can we meet you? Yes, I am Gbenga Manuel-Ikumapayi popularly kno...

IRU-OBE: MADE IN EKITI

Image
YES, you too can be different! I met a fine young man that makes and sells Locust Beans(commonly referred to as Iru). He is so passionate about this business which he runs out of Ado-Ekiti that he already has it branded as Iru Obe. Iru-Obe is an indigenous business which centres on the production of that distinct locust beans produced in Ekiti State. Bankole Iru-Obe,as I will like to call him, is a graduate of microbiology. He resigned from his well paying job with a top pharmaceutical company in Lagos to relocate to Ekiti State so as to start Iru production.  He was called crazy, family and friends were against this supposedly not so smart move but he stuck to his gun and still pursued his passion. Against all oppositions,Bankole ventured into production and today he has a story to tell. Tony Elumelu   Foundation believed in his idea and gave him $5000 as start up grant. Bankole graciously let me into his production space and his heart. Did I g...

Three persons have been confirmed dead in a fresh case of Lassa fever in Ekiti. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Rotimi Ojo, made the disclosure in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday. He said that five out of the eight new suspected cases in the state tested negative while one was uncertain, with the last pending as at press time.
